The proposal signals a shift away from incentive-driven growth toward a leaner, revenue-focused model following its recent exploit and declining economic performance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two governance proposals was published on <\/span><b>23 March. <\/b>They <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">outline a coordinated plan to overhaul the protocol&#8217;s tokenomics and reduce operating costs, aiming to achieve long-term sustainability.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Emissions halted, veBAL phased out<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the center of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/forum.balancer.fi\/t\/bip-xxx-bal-tokenomics-revamp\/7001\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the proposal<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a complete overhaul of BAL tokenomics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Balancer plans to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Halt all BAL emissions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> immediately, ending its liquidity incentive model<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Phase out veBAL<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, removing fee rewards and economic benefits tied to locked tokens<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Route 100% of protocol fees to the DAO Treasury<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, replacing the current split across incentives, partners, and veBAL holders<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The proposal argues that the current system creates &#8220;circular economics,&#8221; where incentives cost more than the revenue they generate, while ongoing emissions dilute existing holders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the new model, annual DAO revenue is projected to rise from roughly <\/span><b>$290K to $1.22M<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as all protocol fees are captured centrally.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Buyback and burn targets up to 35% of supply<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To address long-term dilution, the DAO is also proposing a buyback and burn program funded from the treasury.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The plan would allocate up to <\/span><b>35% of treasury holdings [~$3.6M] to repurchase BAL<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at its net asset value [NAV]. This will potentially remove around 35% of circulating supply if fully executed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, the initiative is designed to provide exit liquidity for holders while reducing supply overhang from years of emissions.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Focus shifts to revenue-generating products<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the new structure, <a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/balancer-recovers-45-7m-after-121m-hack-but-bal-stays-down-24\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Balancer<\/a> will narrow its product focus to areas with proven or high revenue potential, including boosted pools and its reCLAMM system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The protocol will also review deployments across more than nine chains. Continued support will be limited to networks that generate meaningful revenue, such as Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, and Gnosis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, non-performing deployments may be deprecated to reduce operational overhead.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Risks remain as incentives are removed<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Balancer acknowledged that removing emissions and incentives could lead to a decline in total value locked [TVL], as liquidity providers who relied on rewards may exit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The shift also reduces the role of veBAL governance.
