First forward in 2024, the annualized stablecoin volume doubled to nearly $14 trillion, while Visa surged marginally above $13 trillion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_483407\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-483407\" style=\"width: 1340px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/stablecoin-Visa.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-483407 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/stablecoin-Visa.jpeg\" alt=\"Stablecoin\" width=\"1340\" height=\"1050\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/stablecoin-Visa.jpeg 1340w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/stablecoin-Visa-300x235.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/stablecoin-Visa-1024x802.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/stablecoin-Visa-768x602.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/stablecoin-Visa-1200x940.jpeg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1340px) 100vw, 1340px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-483407\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Bitwise<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><strong>What does it mean for crypto?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For context, stablecoins have the most viable crypto use cases, and cross-border payments, dominated by tradFi firms like Visa, could be the first segment ripe for disruption.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In fact, in February, Bitwise CEO Matt Hougan <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Matt_Hougan\/status\/1894786698317353079\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">projected<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that stablecoins could dominate the $44 trillion cross-border payments.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cStablecoins are going to dominate $44 trillion cross-border retail B2B transaction market within the next 5 years.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hougan cited renewed interest\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">in launching or supporting stablecoins by PayPal,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/fidelitys-stablecoin-move-does-testing-phase-signal-market-entry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fidelity<\/a>, Stripe, Bank of America,<\/span>\u00a0and others as tell-tale signs of the upcoming adoption.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unlike volatile cryptocurrencies, stablecoins are backed 1:1 by reserve assets to maintain a \u2018stable\u2019 value tied to currencies like the US dollar or commodities like gold. So far, the most popular stablecoins are US dollar-based, led by Tether\u2019s USDT and Circle\u2019s USDC.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the Bitwise report, the ongoing stablecoin legislation (two bills in the Senate and House of Representatives) could be passed by July.
