rel=\"noopener\">roundtable<\/a>, titled \u201cHow We Got Here and How We Get Out \u2013 Defining Security Status,\u201d will be part of the agency\u2019s broader \u201cSpring Sprint Toward Crypto Clarity\u201d initiative. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While the main discussion will be live-streamed, select closed-door sessions will offer industry leaders, regulators, and legal experts a more private forum to navigate the complexities of digital asset classification.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Crypto regulation finally in the spotlight<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remarking on the same, Crypto Task Force lead Commissioner Hester Peirce <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2025-51?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=govdelivery\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI am looking forward to drawing on the expertise of the public in developing a workable regulatory framework for crypto.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Needless to say, the SEC&#8217;s stance on crypto regulation has undergone a notable shift from its earlier, more aggressive approach under the Biden administration. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Former SEC Chair Gary Gensler had insisted that most cryptocurrencies were securities, urging firms to register and pursuing multiple lawsuits against industry players. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, the agency has since eased its stance, recently dropping several investigations, including its case against Yuga Labs, OpenSea, MetaMask, and a lot more.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a further departure from its previous position, the SEC has now clarified that memecoins do not qualify as securities, signaling a more lenient regulatory outlook for certain digital assets.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Details of SEC&#8217;s crypto task force<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For those unaware, the SEC\u2019s newly formed Crypto Task Force is taking shape under Acting Chair Mark Uyeda, who appointed Commissioner Hester Peirce to lead the initiative.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Peirce has indicated a focus on distinguishing certain tokens as \u201cnon-securities,\u201d potentially signaling a shift in regulatory approach. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alongside this, the agency has made key staff appointments, including Mike Selig as chief counsel. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Selig, a former partner at Willkie Farr &amp; Gallagher and a member of its crypto practice, also interned at the CFTC. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His appointment drew praise from former CFTC Chair Chris Giancarlo, widely known as \u201cCryptoDad,\u201d who <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/giancarloMKTS\/status\/1896665822158053437\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">acknowledged<\/a> the move as a positive step for the industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span
