{"id":433427,"date":"2024-10-16T13:30:52","date_gmt":"2024-10-16T08:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/?p=433427"},"modified":"2024-10-16T10:37:42","modified_gmt":"2024-10-16T05:07:42","slug":"why-trump-is-more-crypto-friendly-than-harris-per-galaxy-digital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/why-trump-is-more-crypto-friendly-than-harris-per-galaxy-digital\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Trump is more crypto-friendly than Harris, per Galaxy Digital"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><em>Galaxy Digital&#8217;s scorecard rates Trump as the most crypto-friendly candidate.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Crypto voters are set to play a major role in upcoming elections.<\/span><\/i><i><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the 2024 U.S. presidential election approaches, Alex Thorn, Head of Firmwide Research at Galaxy Digital, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/intangiblecoins\/status\/1845845163588907486\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">policy scorecard<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This card evaluated the crypto positions of the presidential candidates\u2014Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As per the analysis,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cDownside risk of a Harris victory as limited, with explosive upside possible in the case of a Trump victory.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This hinted at the broader industry potential if the former president returns to the White House.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Trump vs. Harris: Who is better for crypto?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AMBCrypto took a closer look at the scorecard to reveal that out of the nine core points highlighted, Trump performed better in seven. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While Harris presented some hope for improvement over President Joe Biden\u2019s crypto stance, Trump\u2019s policies were viewed as more supportive towards the crypto sector.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_433444\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-433444\" style=\"width: 1146px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Harris-vs-trump.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-433444 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Harris-vs-trump.jpeg\" alt=\"US election Bitcoin\" width=\"1146\" height=\"1512\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Harris-vs-trump.jpeg 1146w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Harris-vs-trump-227x300.jpeg 227w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Harris-vs-trump-776x1024.jpeg 776w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Harris-vs-trump-768x1013.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1146px) 100vw, 1146px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-433444\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: X<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trump\u2019s campaign favored pro-<a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/category\/bitcoin-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bitcoin [BTC]<\/a> mining policies, pledging, \u201cBitcoin will be made in America.\u201d This contrasted with Harris\u2019 focus on measures against large electricity consumers. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The former also made his opposition to CBDCs clear and remains committed to ending restrictive banking practices like Operation Chokepoint 2.0.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the other hand, Harris showed some openness toward easing Operation Chokepoint 2.0 yet raised concerns with her intent to reverse Trump-era tax cuts, which could tighten regulations for digital assets.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition, the VP did not make any specific commitments regarding self-custody rights. At the same time, Trump has pledged to protect the right to self-custody.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With these variations in policies, Thorn noted:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBitcoin should fare well regardless of outcome. Altcoins face risk from Harris and could see outperformance with Trump.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Thus, the election will be critical in determining the fate of altcoins.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Evolving stances: From skepticism to support<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interestingly, both Trump and Harris have exhibited changing positions on digital assets. In a 2021 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/crypto-potentially-a-disaster-waiting-to-happen-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">interview<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with Fox Business, Trump called crypto a \u201cdisaster waiting to happen.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, he rebranded himself as a crypto advocate at the Nashville <a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/will-the-bitcoin-conference-2024-make-donald-trump-the-crypto-president\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bitcoin <\/a><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/will-the-bitcoin-conference-2024-make-donald-trump-the-crypto-president\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conference 2024<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Similarly, after months of tiptoeing around the subject, Harris also made a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/kamala-harris-crypto-strategy-a-late-but-significant-move-in-the-election-race\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">shift<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> toward supporting crypto innovation.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Impact of crypto on the 2024 election<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This evolution in candidates\u2019 crypto stances reflected the growing significance of digital assets in U.S. politics.
