One of the Ethereum community members, Justin Drake, suggested that ETH was like Nvidia and Apple and could attract multi-trillion valuations based on its fees.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Drake <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/yvP39-EOADU?si=bEWnHBLWwx3XHoPk&amp;t=4448\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stated<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEthereum is like a very large business like Nvidia, Apple..we can muster multitrillion valuations purely based on the flows [fees]. And then you know there&#8217;s a whole different topic on top of this base valuation of trillions of dollars for ETH to be money, collateral..for decentralized stablecoins.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><strong>Mixed views on ETH&#8217;s value<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, some builders and founders in the Ethereum eco-system disagreed with these perceived leadership views. Sam Kazemian, Founder of DeFi protocol Frax Finance, was one of the critics.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kazemian felt that comparing ETH to Nvidia or Apple would limit the altcoin&#8217;s growth potential compared to Bitcoin. He <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/samkazemian\/status\/1832525206415716513\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claimed<\/a> that this valuation wouldn\u2019t be a win for the altcoin asset.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018ETH currently has $1B annual revenue. If we 385x this revenue to match Apple&#8217;s that means ETH would 11x to match Apple&#8217;s valuation. Does this seem like a winning roadmap for ETH?\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He believed this was a flawed way for the leadership to gauge ETH\u2019s value and might not compete with BTC.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEthereum as a big business where its &#8216;base valuation&#8217; is measured as cash flows from fees give it a fighting chance to catch up or ever overtake BTC?\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He added,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cApple has $385B annual revenue, it&#8217;s worth $3.3T. BTC has 0 annual revenue &amp; never will have a single dollar of revenue. It&#8217;s worth $1.1T already.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kazemian, like most protocol founders, championed that ETH\u2019s primary value should be based on its \u2018store of value\u2019 (SoV) and DeFi ecosystem.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>ETH leadership says&#8230;<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unlike BTC\u2019s \u201cdigital gold\u201d tagline, ETH has struggled to have an impactful and unified pitch deck for potential investors. The leaders\u2019 push for \u201cprogrammable money\u201d and \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ryanberckmans\/status\/1832481010128240867\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">digital oil<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d hasn\u2019t grabbed the expected appeal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ethereum\u2019s DeFi vision has also seen divergent visions from leaders. For example, Vitalik Buterin has been <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/VitalikButerin\/status\/1827642283560144916\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">skeptical<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of pure DeFi as the only crypto growth catalyst. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This was opposed to other community members like Kazemian and Uniswap\u2019s Hayden Adams, who believed DeFi was critical to the growth of ETH\u2019s value.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Coinbase analysts, this <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/all-the-reasons-why-ethereum-is-struggling-to-catch-up-with-bitcoin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">divergent<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> vision for Ethereum\u2019s DeFi has made it hard for new investors to understand the asset and dented its market sentiment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Besides, ETH\u2019s fees have <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/glxyresearch\/status\/1832461143354306811\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">declined<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> considerably since the Dencun upgrade in March, as low-cost blobs prompted users to migrate to L2s.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_421657\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-421657\" style=\"width: 1865px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Galaxy-Digital-ETH-L2-fees.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-421657 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Galaxy-Digital-ETH-L2-fees.jpeg\" alt=\"Ethereum \" width=\"1865\" height=\"1062\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Galaxy-Digital-ETH-L2-fees.jpeg 1865w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Galaxy-Digital-ETH-L2-fees-300x171.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Galaxy-Digital-ETH-L2-fees-1024x583.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Galaxy-Digital-ETH-L2-fees-768x437.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Galaxy-Digital-ETH-L2-fees-1536x875.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Galaxy-Digital-ETH-L2-fees-1200x683.jpeg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1865px) 100vw, 1865px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-421657\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Galaxy Research<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This has also <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/ethereums-inflation-problem-heres-why-blobs-have-divided-the-community\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">divided<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the community on whether to tweak blob fees to help ETH L1 gain value from L2s as ETH\u2019s inflation problem compounds post-Dencun upgrade.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The above community issues have shattered investor sentiment around ETH even further.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That said, ETH has lost ground to BTC. The underperformance was illustrated by a yearly low on the ETH\/BTC ratio, which tracks the altcoin\u2019s price performance relative to BTC.
