{"id":384980,"date":"2024-04-17T14:30:28","date_gmt":"2024-04-17T09:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/?p=384980"},"modified":"2024-04-17T14:44:40","modified_gmt":"2024-04-17T09:14:40","slug":"bitcoin-should-you-expect-more-volatility-ahead-of-the-halving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/bitcoin-should-you-expect-more-volatility-ahead-of-the-halving\/","title":{"rendered":"Bitcoin: Should you expect more volatility ahead of the halving?"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bitcoin&#8217;s Implied Volatility saw a surge last weekend.<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bearish sentiments overrun the market as the halving nears.<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The implied volatility for <a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/category\/bitcoin-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bitcoin [BTC]<\/a> options contracts expiring in April increased significantly from 62% to 75% over the weekend, Kaiko noted in a recent post on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kaikodata\/status\/1780249803617980506\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">X (formerly Twitter)<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Implied Volatility measures the expected future swings in a coin\u2019s price. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Such a sharp rise in an asset\u2019s Implied Volatility over a short period suggests a notable shift in market sentiment regarding where the asset\u2019s price may be headed in the short term.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The surge in BTC\u2019s implied volatility suggests that market participants expect increased price fluctuations or \u201cturbulence\u201d in the short term.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>BTC in the spot market<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An assessment of key volatility markers on BTC\u2019s daily chart confirmed that the coin remains at risk of significant price swings in either direction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, the gap between the upper and lower bands of the coin\u2019s Bollinger Bands (BB) indicator has widened. This indicator assesses market volatility and an asset\u2019s potential price movements.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When the gap between its upper and lower bands widens, the asset\u2019s price becomes more volatile and may break out in an uptrend or a downtrend.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Confirming the rising volatility, BTC\u2019s Bollinger Bandwidth was in an uptrend as of this writing. At 0.15, the indicator\u2019s value has risen by 67% in the past four days.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This indicator measures the width of the Bollinger Bands relative to each other. This is often interpreted as a bearish signal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, its positive directional index (green) was pegged below its negative index (red).
