{"id":383103,"date":"2024-04-09T18:00:37","date_gmt":"2024-04-09T12:30:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/?p=383103"},"modified":"2024-04-09T16:48:29","modified_gmt":"2024-04-09T11:18:29","slug":"betting-against-eth-etf-how-a-may-rejection-could-benefit-bitcoin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/betting-against-eth-etf-how-a-may-rejection-could-benefit-bitcoin\/","title":{"rendered":"Betting against Ethereum ETF: How a May rejection could benefit Bitcoin"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ethereum ETF approval odds have dropped below 25% in Polymarket.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vijay Boyapati forecasts ETH ETF May rejection could benefit BTC.<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The overall market is leaning toward a possible US spot <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/category\/ethereum-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ethereum [ETH]<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ETF applications rejection in May. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the prediction markets platform, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/polymarket.com\/event\/ethereum-etf-approved-by-may-31?tid=1712647202393\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Polymarket<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the bets for ETH ETF May approval have dropped 68% and stood at a 24% chance at press time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bloomberg ETF analysts Eric Balchunas and James Seyffart, who correctly predicted the US spot <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/category\/bitcoin-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bitcoin [BTC]<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ETF approval, have echoed Polymarket\u2019s sentiment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a recent <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JSeyff\/status\/1777404114026058135\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">post<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on X, Seyffart highlighted SEC\u2019s \u201csilence\u201d and \u201cno feedback\u201d to recent ETH ETF filings as \u201cviolence\u201d to clients. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEric said &#8220;Silence is Violence&#8221; on a client call last week in regards to the #ethereum ETFs and I loved it.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seyffart was reacting to Balchunas\u2019 statement that SEC wasn\u2019t giving \u201ccritical feedback\u201d even during in-person meetings. This meant that odds for May approval were still low.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Will BTC benefit from Ethereum ETF May rejection?<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With May fast approaching and approval odds seeming elusive, Vijay Boyapati, commentator and author of \u201cThe Bullish Case for Bitcoin,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/real_vijay\/status\/1777461171316236367\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claimed<\/a> that,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAll the hot money that flowed into ETH because of ETF hopium is going to go back into Bitcoin once the Ethereum ETFs are all rejected.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For Boyapati\u2019s prediction to happen, ETH market dominance will need to drop considerably as BTC\u2019s surge.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/coinmarketcap.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CoinMarketCap<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, BTC&#8217;s market dominance was 52.4% at the time of writing, mainly due to strong ETF flows in the past three months. ETH\u2019s market dominance stood at 16.5%.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Should Boyapati\u2019s thesis be confirmed, ETH market dominance could slip below 16% or 15% as the market re-adjusts to ETH ETF rejection in May. If so, the capital rotation could induce BTC momentum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, ETH was above a crucial weekly bearish order block (3.2K\u20143.5K). It was consolidating around the Q1 2022 local top.
