{"id":370300,"date":"2024-02-15T14:00:29","date_gmt":"2024-02-15T08:30:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/?p=370300"},"modified":"2024-02-15T13:56:18","modified_gmt":"2024-02-15T08:26:18","slug":"has-gary-genslers-stance-on-bitcoin-changed-after-etf-approvals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/has-gary-genslers-stance-on-bitcoin-changed-after-etf-approvals\/","title":{"rendered":"Has SEC Chair Gensler&#8217;s position changed after Bitcoin ETF approvals?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SEC Chairman Gary Gensler, in a recent <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/video\/2024\/02\/14\/watch-cnbcs-full-interview-with-sec-chair-gary-gensler.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">interview<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with CNBC on the 14th of February, highlighted a significant economic distinction between cryptocurrencies and fiat currencies like the U.S. dollar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The recent approval of spot <a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/category\/bitcoin-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bitcoin [BTC]<\/a> ETFs and the resulting surge in prices have boosted the crypto market. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But now, there&#8217;s a big question: Is it the centralized or decentralized setup that&#8217;s making cryptocurrencies so popular?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gensler, when remarking on the same, said,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cYou have a whole central bank, and support for one currency, generally per economic region, which is not the case with Bitcoin.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h4><b>\u00a0Will fiat dominate the crypto market?\u00a0<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the contrary, while defending the importance of fiat against Bitcoin, JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cThe true use case for Bitcoin is criminal, drug trafficking, money laundering, and tax avoidance.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To this, Gensler replied,<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBitcoin has the leading market share in ransomware, and that\u2019s publicly known. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s the token of choice for ransomware.\u201d <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>When questioned about additional utilities for Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies beyond ransomware, which draw significant interest from the public, Gensler simply responded,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;It all about speculative investing.&#8221;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b><\/b><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h4><b>Bitcoin ETFs shifting the decentralized landscape <\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gary also outlined his disinterest in investors being drawn to <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/etf-effect-how-inflows-into-digital-assets-crossed-1b-last-week\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bitcoin ETFs<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the king coin&#8217;s <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/bitcoin-price-surges-7-time-to-revive-50k-predictions\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">latest rally<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. He elaborated,<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe prioritize investor protection and, of course, the issuers raising money.
