{"id":363783,"date":"2024-01-14T16:00:01","date_gmt":"2024-01-14T10:30:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/?p=363783"},"modified":"2024-01-14T13:19:01","modified_gmt":"2024-01-14T07:49:01","slug":"solana-phishing-attacks-cost-users-4-million-last-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/solana-phishing-attacks-cost-users-4-million-last-month\/","title":{"rendered":"Solana: Phishing attacks cost users $4 million last month"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><em>Nearly 4,000 people fell victim to sophisticated phishing websites.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Solana was deemed the most vulnerable when it came to phishing incidents.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Malicious players stole crypto assets worth more than $4 million from <a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/predictions\/solana-price-prediction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Solana [SOL]<\/a> wallets over the past month, according to an investigation by Web3 anti-scam platform <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/realScamSniffer\/status\/1746190469477130663?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scam Sniffer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly 4,000 people fell victim to sophisticated phishing websites that preyed on Solana users.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the investigation, Scam Sniffer tracked down two main perpetrators in the entire episode \u2014 Rainbow Drainer and Node Drainer.<\/p>\n<h4>Solana users attacked<\/h4>\n<p>The first incident came to light when a victim was duped into opening a phishing website linked to a fake airdrop of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The user opened the website and signed a malicious transaction, resulting in a loss of assets.<\/p>\n<p>Many more users were targeted using the same modus operandi by Rainbow Drainer.<\/p>\n<p>Surprisingly, before finalizing the transaction, users received a notification indicating that the simulation had failed. Despite this, they went ahead and ended up losing funds.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_363786\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-363786\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Solana-wallet-hacks-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-363786\" src=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Solana-wallet-hacks-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"675\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Solana-wallet-hacks-1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Solana-wallet-hacks-1-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Solana-wallet-hacks-1-768x506.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-363786\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Scam Sniffer<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Notably, around <a href=\"https:\/\/dune.com\/scam-sniffer\/solana-rainbow-drainer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$2.14 million<\/a> were drained out, including some popular Solana ecosystem tokens like <a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/predictions\/bonk-price-prediction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BONK<\/a> and ZERO.<\/p>\n<p>The next phishing incident surfaced during Christmas that targeted BONK holders, resulting in the extraction of over<a href=\"https:\/\/dune.com\/scam-sniffer\/solana-node-drainer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> $2 million<\/a> in less than two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>One address associated with Node drainer has already made over $1 million in profit as of this writing.<\/p>\n<p>The perpetrator here, called Node Drainer, was also involved in the recent hacking of cybersecurity firm <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Mandiant\/status\/1742986799419740260?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mandiant&#8217;s<\/a> X (formerly Twitter) account, Scam Sniffer revealed.<\/p>\n<p>Scam Sniffer stated that phishing incidents on Solana involve direct transfers, unlike <a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/category\/ethereum-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ethereum [ETH]<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Even though Solana supports transaction simulation, evolved hacking strategies like anti-simulation and even fake simulation continue to deceive users.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">How much are\u00a01,10,100 SOLs worth today?<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Rise in phishing incidents<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In one of the earlier reports, Scam Sniffer highlighted the alarming increase in the number of phishing websites every month. Such cases require extra prudence from the users, and it&#8217;s always advisable to research before jumping on the offer.<\/p>\n<p>One should take time to know more about the project, and other investors who are participating in it.
