{"id":356997,"date":"2023-11-11T00:00:12","date_gmt":"2023-11-10T18:30:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/?p=356997"},"modified":"2023-11-10T15:16:12","modified_gmt":"2023-11-10T09:46:12","slug":"circle-introduces-new-upgrade-to-make-usdc-eurc-more-accessible","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/circle-introduces-new-upgrade-to-make-usdc-eurc-more-accessible\/","title":{"rendered":"Circle introduces new upgrade to make USDC, EURC &#8220;more accessible&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><em>USDC and EURC&#8217;s deployment on other chains could change the course of the network growth.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>The upgrade is projected to be complete by January 2024.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a bid to reduce gas costs and improve security, stablecoin issuer <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Circle [USDC]<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, has unveiled a new upgrade on its network. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">D<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ubbed the \u201cv2.2 upgrade\u201d Circle revealed that the overall idea behind the development was to make USDC and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/circle-launches-euro-stablecoin-on-stellar-will-this-boost-xlm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Euro Coin [EURC]<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (a Euro-backed stablecoin) the most efficient money protocol on the internet.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In May, AMBCrypto reported how Circle launched EURC on three blockchain networks. These included <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Avalanche [AVAX]<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ethereum [ETH]<\/span>,<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stellar [XLM]<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, the project noted that this new upgrade would mean expansion to six new blockchains.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Expansion is the name of the game<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some of the new blockchains earmarked for integration include the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Polygon [MATIC]<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Goerli Testnet, Base Goerli, and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Arbitrum [ARB]<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Goerli. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Launched in 2019, Goerli was designed to bring stability, speed, and low transaction fees to the Ethereum mainnet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now, Circle has noted that the new upgrade would bring about a 7% increase in gas efficiency. According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.circle.com\/blog\/announcing-usdc-v2.2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">communiqu\u00e9<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Circle noted that:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cCost reduction can range between 6-7% for functions invoked in many common use cases, such as making a transfer, payment, or trade with USDC or EURC. Developers and users of Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) can also see a 3-4% reduction in network gas fees when burning and minting USDC across blockchains.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, Circle has been making <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/circle-takes-steps-to-shore-up-usdc-amid-plummeting-market-share\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">moves<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to ensure that USDC adoption continues at a high rate. But regardless, USDC has been able to maintain its stay in the top 10 on the crypto standings.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Opening the network for new possibilities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Like the market cap, network growth has also been affected. Network growth measures the number of new addresses interacting with a network. An increase in the metric implies a rise in adoption.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conversely, a decrease suggests a drop in traction. In simple terms, account abstraction is the technology that allows users to control their funds using smart contracts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With respect to this, Circle said it was considering the ERC-4337 compatibility with its network. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ERC-4337 is the account abstraction standard facilitating the usage of smart contracts without complexities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Circle also noted that it was working on a permit function to make USDC and EURC compatible with the standard noting that:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cTo allow the permit function to be 4337-compatible, we\u2019ve taken a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">recommendation<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the Ethereum community to implement permit in a way that avoids the timestamp check in some instances.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Realistic or not, here\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/calculator\/marketcap\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">USDC\u2019s market cap in USDT terms<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Meanwhile, the stablecoin issuer also noted that the rollout of the new upgrade might take a while. It disclosed that all of the deployments should be live by January 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Circle mentioned that EURC and USDC would be deployed on the <a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/ethereum-sepolia-testnet-successful-but-vitalik-admits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sepolia<\/a> testnet around the same period.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Circle noted that the new upgrade would bring about a 7% increase in gas efficiency.
