{"id":353255,"date":"2023-10-25T05:00:45","date_gmt":"2023-10-24T23:30:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/?p=353255"},"modified":"2023-10-24T18:22:41","modified_gmt":"2023-10-24T12:52:41","slug":"why-filecoins-revenue-plunged-60-in-q3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/why-filecoins-revenue-plunged-60-in-q3\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Filecoin&#8217;s revenue plunged 60% in Q3"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Filecoin\u2019s revenue suffered a decline in Q3.<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the coin\u2019s derivatives markets, participants continued to maintain a bullish outlook.<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leading decentralized storage network Filecoin [FIL] suffered a 60% dip in protocol revenue in the third quarter, Messari found in a new <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/messari.io\/report\/state-of-filecoin-q3-2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Read\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/predictions\/filecoin-price-prediction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">Filecoin\u2019s [FIL] Price Prediction<\/a>\u00a02023-24<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the on-chain data provider, Filecoin\u2019s revenue decline between July and September was due to an \u201coverall decline in demand-side revenue across the decentralized cloud storage space\u201d during that period.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Filecoin network is used to store data by both the demand side (storage users) and the supply side (storage providers). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On its demand side, storage users can create storage deals on Filecoin, specify the amount of data they need to store, the duration of the storage, and the price they are willing to pay. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moreover, Filecoin requires storage users to pay certain fees in the protocol\u2019s native token FIL. These fees incentivize storage providers to store data reliably and prevent the network from being spammed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On its supply side, storage providers can register their storage capacity on the Filecoin blockchain and then bid on storage deals to offer their storage capacity to storage users.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Messari, Filecoin\u2019s Demand-side base fees (the minimum fees paid to store data on the network) plummeted by 72% during the period under review. The analysis further noted,<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIn line with base fee declining, all the other FIL fees that accrue to the protocol revenue (penalty, batch, and overestimation fees) declined QoQ.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Between July and September, Filecoin\u2019s protocol revenue totaled $14.8 million, declining by 15% from the $17.6 million recorded in Q2. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Filecoin\u2019s supply-side revenue measured in FIL also plummeted. Messari found.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSupply-side revenue in FIL decreased 16% in Q2&#8217;23 to 14.8 million FIL (down 34% in USD terms). Benefitting from the general market uptrend in the past 24 hours, FIL\u2019s value rallied by 9% in the last 24 hours, according to data from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/coinmarketcap.com\/currencies\/filecoin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CoinMarketCap<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">How much are\u00a01,10,100 FILs worth today?<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With an 18% jump in value in the last week, FIL\u2019s Open Interest in the derivatives market has increased.
