{"id":351977,"date":"2023-10-20T00:00:31","date_gmt":"2023-10-19T18:30:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/?p=351977"},"modified":"2023-10-19T18:09:50","modified_gmt":"2023-10-19T12:39:50","slug":"avalanche-emerges-as-an-eco-friendly-network-new-report-finds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/avalanche-emerges-as-an-eco-friendly-network-new-report-finds\/","title":{"rendered":"Avalanche emerges as an eco-friendly network, new report finds"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><em>Avalanche used up 469,802.39-kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity on an annual basis<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><em>Avalanche was one of the least eco-polluting PoS networks.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Avalanche [AVAX] turned out to be one of the most eco-friendly and sustainable blockchain networks, as per a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/msbgqYF0yE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> published by Crypto Carbon Ratings Institute (CCRI).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Read <a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/predictions\/avalanche-2-price-prediction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">Avalanche&#8217;s [AVAX] Price Prediction<\/a>\u00a02023-24<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Avalanche goes high on green ratings<\/h4>\n<p>The research firm, which tracks environmental impact of cryptocurrencies, discovered that Avalanche sucked 469,802.39-kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity annually as of 1 June 2023.<\/p>\n<p>For context, this was just 8.2% of the energy consumed by Ethereum [ETH], and order of magnitude lower than that of proof-of-work (PoW) chain Bitcoin [BTC].<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_351986\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-351986\" style=\"width: 615px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Energy-Consumption.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-351986 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Energy-Consumption.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"615\" height=\"307\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Energy-Consumption.jpg 615w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Energy-Consumption-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 615px) 100vw, 615px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-351986\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: CCRI<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The report also found that Avalanche&#8217;s annual energy consumption was equal to the annual consumption of 44 average U.S. households.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, with emissions of just 178.3 tCO2e per annum, Avalanche was one of the least eco-polluting PoS networks. Indeed, its carbon footprint was a minuscule fraction of that of Ethereum and Solana [SOL], and equivalent to the emissions from 29 roundtrip flights from Munich to San Francisco.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_352001\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-352001\" style=\"width: 759px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Carbon-foot-prints.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-352001\" src=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Carbon-foot-prints.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"759\" height=\"407\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Carbon-foot-prints.jpg 759w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Carbon-foot-prints-300x161.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 759px) 100vw, 759px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-352001\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: CCRI<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The study further highlighted that Avalanche&#8217;s electricity consumption dipped by 4% from last year despite the increases in Subnet usage.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years, blockchains&#8217; increased power consumption and carbon emissions have become a major sticking point between skeptics and endorsers of the technology.<\/p>\n<p>The bulk of the criticism was directed at PoW networks, which involve deployment of energy-guzzling machines. Fearing a blemish on their image and future growth opportunities, many solutions shifted to the PoS approach.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, different stakeholders like investors, users, and regulators have been actively tracking climate impact of blockchains. In this backdrop, Avalanche&#8217;s impressive green indicators boded well for future investments and adoption.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">How much are\u00a01,10,100 AVAXs worth today?<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>A tour of Avalanche&#8217;s ecosystem<\/h4>\n<p>While Avalanche earned plaudits for its green credentials, native token AVAX was insulated from the achievement. The coin lost 2.55% of its value in the last 24 hours, trading at <a href=\"https:\/\/coinmarketcap.com\/currencies\/avalanche\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$8.91<\/a> as of press time.<\/p>\n<p>According to Avalanche explorer, around <a href=\"https:\/\/subnets.avax.network\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">77 Subnets<\/a> were in operation as of this writing, with 1,464 validators.
