Nevertheless, recent analyses indicate a gradual decrease in the market capitalization of this prominent stablecoin.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>The unstable market cap of USDC<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One year ago, the market capitalization of <a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/usdc-turbulent-journey-continues-with-slim-chances-of-recovery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USDC<\/a> surpassed $50 billion. However, this value has experienced a substantial decrease, as indicated by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/chart\/Q8Lvy7tC\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trading View<\/a> chart. As of this writing, the market capitalization was approximately $25.9 billion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_337354\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-337354\" style=\"width: 1491px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/USDC_2023-08-21_09-48-46.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-337354 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/USDC_2023-08-21_09-48-46.png\" alt=\"USDC market cap\" width=\"1491\" height=\"707\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/USDC_2023-08-21_09-48-46.png 1491w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/USDC_2023-08-21_09-48-46-300x142.png 300w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/USDC_2023-08-21_09-48-46-1024x486.png 1024w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/USDC_2023-08-21_09-48-46-768x364.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1491px) 100vw, 1491px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-337354\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: TradingView<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The current trading volume highlighted that half of its market capitalization was lost compared to its position in August 2022. While the decline has been ongoing, the chart illustrated a significant plummet in value around 11 March. During that time, there was a decline of more than 8%, marking the highest drop in quite a while, and a subsequent recovery has not occurred since then.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>How the Silicon Valley Bank\u2019s fall impacted USDC<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">USDC is a stablecoin tied to the US dollar and is issued by Circle, a cryptocurrency payments company. The assets supporting this stablecoin are securely stored under the custody of BlackRock, BNY Mellon, and other financial institutions. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the latter half of July 2022, USDC&#8217;s market capitalization peaked at around $55 billion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Subsequently, this value diminished to roughly $44 billion by the beginning of March in the current year, as observed from the chart. The decline was further accelerated due to the insolvency of Silicon Valley Bank, where <a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/circle-will-cover-funds-shortfall-caused-by-silicon-valley-bank-collapse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Circle<\/a> had initially placed $3.3 billion of its reserves. However, Circle regained control over those funds following a federal bailout provided to SVB.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Tether&#8217;s USDT pulls further away\u00a0<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While USDC has grappled with its market capitalization, Tether (USDT) has made strides. According to the observed Trading View chart, Tether&#8217;s market capitalization has surged by nearly $20 billion from January to the present date. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The market capitalization was approximately $66.5 billion at the year&#8217;s commencement. However, as of this writing, the market capitalization has surpassed $83 billion.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_337355\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-337355\" style=\"width: 1491px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/USDT_2023-08-21_10-12-17.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-337355 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/USDT_2023-08-21_10-12-17.png\" alt=\"USDT market cap\" width=\"1491\" height=\"707\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/USDT_2023-08-21_10-12-17.png 1491w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/USDT_2023-08-21_10-12-17-300x142.png 300w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/USDT_2023-08-21_10-12-17-1024x486.png 1024w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/USDT_2023-08-21_10-12-17-768x364.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1491px) 100vw, 1491px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-337355\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: TradingView<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite the challenges faced by USDC in terms of its declining market cap, it still retained its position as the second-largest stablecoin by market capitalization. Data from <a href=\"https:\/\/coinmarketcap.com\/view\/stablecoin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CoinMarketCap<\/a> indicated that it maintained a lead of over $20 billion compared to the nearest stablecoin, DAI, as of this writing.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>USDC&#8217;s ascent falters as market cap dwindles; SVB&#8217;s stumble deepens troubles.
