OpenSea was particularly prominent in this debate, as they strongly advocated for and implemented royalty payments. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It even created a tool that could prevent NFT marketplaces like Blur from functioning if they didn&#8217;t uphold royalty standards. Nevertheless, recent updates suggested that OpenSea might be toning down its strict approach as Blur&#8217;s influence continues to rise unabated.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>OpenSea discontinues blacklist tool<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On 17 August, OpenSea announced that it would &#8220;sunset&#8221; its Operator Filter starting 31 August. The Operator Filter was a tool for NFT creators to ensure royalties on their creations. Functioning as a transaction filter, it allowed creators to set specific conditions under which they would receive royalties.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Starting Aug 31, we\u2019ll:<br \/>\n&#8211; Sunset the OpenSea Operator Filter<br \/>\n&#8211; Move to optional creator fees on all secondary sales for new collections<br \/>\n&#8211; Improve visibility of creator fee settings and listings on buyer &amp; seller side<\/p>\n<p>More below:<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 OpenSea (@opensea) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/opensea\/status\/1692224335136633075?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 17, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/opensea-welcomes-new-update-will-royalty-be-enforced-on-existing-collections-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OpenSea<\/a> introduced the Operator Filter Registry in November 2022. Its launch presented new NFT collection creators with a choice: either implement the tool, which prevented their tokens from being traded on non-royalty-enforcing marketplaces, or OpenSea wouldn&#8217;t enforce royalties for the collection on its platform.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In response to this dynamic, <a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/blur-sees-record-growth-but-is-it-only-because-of-one-reason\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Blur<\/a> incorporated a freely accessible marketplace protocol called Seaport, a platform originally launched by OpenSea in 2022. Amidst these strategic moves and counterstrategies, Blur steadily captured a significant share of the NFT market.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Blur\u2019s volume catches up with OpenSea\u2019s<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Analyzing data from <a href=\"https:\/\/dune.com\/hildobby\/NFTs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dune Analytics<\/a> revealed that Blur had successfully caught up to OpenSea regarding trading volume. A comparison of weekly trading volumes over the past two years illustrated that OpenSea maintained a dominant share of the trading volume for a considerable duration. On the other hand, the combined trading volume of <a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/interest-in-blur-craters-as-nft-enthusiasts-return-to-opensea\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OpenSea<\/a> and OpenSea Pro amounted to less than 25 million. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notably, OpenSea retained an advantage in the number of individual trades conducted. Nonetheless, Blur&#8217;s trade count was not significantly trailing behind.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Where to go from here?<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moreover, the once-thriving excitement surrounding NFTs has considerably waned, as evidenced by the decline in sales activity. According to data from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cryptoslam.io\/nftglobal?headerPeriod=30d&amp;timeFrame=month\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Crypto Slam<\/a>, the sales volume has failed to reach the peaks observed in 2021. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notably, August marked the most significant drop this year, even though certain collections experienced temporary surges in volume.
