{"id":331146,"date":"2023-07-30T07:00:50","date_gmt":"2023-07-30T01:30:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/?p=331146"},"modified":"2023-07-30T22:04:57","modified_gmt":"2023-07-30T16:34:57","slug":"worldcoins-launch-propels-optimism-but-at-what-cost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/worldcoins-launch-propels-optimism-but-at-what-cost\/","title":{"rendered":"WorldCoin&#8217;s launch propels Optimism, but at what cost?"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><em>On 27 July, Optimism&#8217;s daily transaction count exceeded Arbitrum for the first time since January.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Following a few hours of traction, attention has shifted from its OP token.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On 27 July, Layer 2 (L2) blockchain network Optimism [OP] recorded a higher daily transaction count than Arbitrum [ARB], marking the first time this has happened since January, data from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/optimistic.etherscan.io\/chart\/address\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blockscan<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> revealed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Read\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/predictions\/optimism-price-prediction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">Optimism\u2019s [OP] Price Prediction<\/a>\u00a02023-24<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The surge in Optimism\u2019s network activity was attributed primarily to the launch of Worldcoin [WLD] &#8211; the cryptocurrency project founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman designed to solve the problems of income inequality and online identity authentication.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On 11 May, Worldcoin <a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/worldcoin-switches-sides-in-l2-war-picks-optimism-over-polygon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> its decision to move the launch of its World App, which was originally planned to go live on the Polygon Network, to Optimism.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">World ID &amp; World App are coming to the @OptimismFND Mainnet \ud83e\udea9 \ud83d\udd34<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/0utgzeWihY\">https:\/\/t.co\/0utgzeWihY<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; World (@worldcoin) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/worldcoin\/status\/1656653377152114689?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 11, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Worldcoin&#8217;s decision to switch platforms indicated a strategic move to explore new opportunities and leverage the capabilities offered by Optimism. According to the press release:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWith more than 1.6 million sign-ups in beta and 500,000+ monthly active World App users, the deployments on OP Mainnet will expand access and help Worldcoin reach a values-aligned ecosystem of developers and users.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h4><b>Thanks to Worldcoin, Optimism has\u2026<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As of 27 July, the daily transactions count on Optimism touched 944,000. Since the project went live on OP\u2019s mainnet on 24 July, daily active addresses on the blockchain network have increased by 22%. While the unique address count on Arbitrum increased as well, it has only rallied by 2% during the same period.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, with growing attention to the L2 network, Optimism has experienced an increase in the total value of assets locked (TVL) within its decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols. Per data from Artemis, Optimism\u2019s TVL has grown by 4% since Worldcoin launched five days ago.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Within a 7-day window period, Optimism\u2019s TVL has shot up by 15%. Arbitrum, on the other hand, saw its TVL drop by 3% during the same period.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nevertheless, Arbitrum maintains its position as the L2 solution with the highest TVL of $5.98 billion, holding more than 55% of the L2 market share, per data from L2Beat. Since Worldcoin launched, the alt\u2019s value has dropped by 4%, per data from CoinMarketCap.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Read\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/predictions\/arbitrum-price-prediction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">Arbitrum\u2019s [ARB] Price Prediction<\/a>\u00a02023-24<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On-chain data from<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/app.santiment.net\/charts\/FoSzIDuW__sCl\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Santiment<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> revealed a sharp uptick in daily demand and active address count for OP following Worldcoin\u2019s launch.
