{"id":319676,"date":"2023-06-11T07:00:40","date_gmt":"2023-06-11T01:30:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/?p=319676"},"modified":"2023-06-10T17:25:34","modified_gmt":"2023-06-10T11:55:34","slug":"optimism-bedrock-weaves-its-magic-better-days-ahead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/optimism-bedrock-weaves-its-magic-better-days-ahead\/","title":{"rendered":"Optimism: Bedrock weaves its magic, better days ahead?"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><em>The cost of transferring ETH from the base layer to the L2 reduced by 66%.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Optimism was the second-largest L2 network, holding assets worth $1.52 billion at press time.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The recently executed <a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/gauging-ops-reaction-as-bedrock-goes-live-on-mainnet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bedrock upgrade<\/a> on layer-2 (L2) solution Optimism [OP] has created a world of difference for users as far as network costs are concerned.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Realistic or not, here\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/calculator\/marketcap\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">OP&#8217;s market cap in BTC\u2019s terms<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Blockchain analytics firm <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DuneAnalytics\/status\/1667151938981449729?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dune<\/a> stated that the overall costs have come down by 56% on average ever since the much-awaited upgrade went live on 8 June, with the cost of transferring Ethereum [ETH] from the base layer to the L2 reducing by a significant 66%.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, Optimism users have <a href=\"https:\/\/dune.com\/oplabspbc\/optimism-bedrock-migration-impact-dashboard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">saved<\/a> more than $210,929 since the migration.<\/p>\n<h3>Rock &#8216;n&#8217; Roll<\/h3>\n<p>The Bedrock Upgrade has also resulted in a significant fall in average transaction fees per transaction, according to a Dune dashboard, which tracked Optimism&#8217;s stats post migration. From $0.29, the cost per transaction tumbled 58% to $0.12 on 9 June.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_319695\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-319695\" style=\"width: 680px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Optimism-new.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-319695\" src=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Optimism-new.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"680\" height=\"402\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Optimism-new.jpg 680w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Optimism-new-300x177.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-319695\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Dune<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A Web3 enthusiast <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JRossTreacher\/status\/1667154622622973954?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James Ross<\/a> took to Twitter to highlight that these improvements brought Optimism&#8217;s fees at par with other rollups like Polygon zkEVM and zkSync, and lower than Arbitrum [ARB], the biggest L2 solution.<\/p>\n<p>The Bedrock upgrade uses an optimized batch\u00a0compression strategy and Ethereum as a data availability layer to lower the gas fees on the Optimism network.<\/p>\n<p>The enhancements focused on three primary areas: decreasing deposit times, lowering L1 prices (the cost of posting L2 transactions on Etherum), and enhancing security measures.<\/p>\n<h3>Still early days for Optimism<\/h3>\n<p>As of this writing, the upgrade hasn&#8217;t resulted in a meteoric rise in trading activity. Due to the broader market lull, decentralized finance (DeFi) activity has declined on the network from a peak of $2.18 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, the Bedrock upgrade keeps the L2 in good health, as DeFi protocols and other dApps seek lower transaction fees before selecting which network to launch their product on.
