{"id":301516,"date":"2023-03-30T18:00:02","date_gmt":"2023-03-30T12:30:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/?p=301516"},"modified":"2023-03-30T17:35:29","modified_gmt":"2023-03-30T12:05:29","slug":"do-kwons-extradition-is-being-sought-by-these-countries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/do-kwons-extradition-is-being-sought-by-these-countries\/","title":{"rendered":"Do Kwon\u2019s extradition is being sought by these countries"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><em>The U.S. and South Korea are seeking the extradition of Terra founder Do Kwon from Montenegro.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Justice Minister has stated that Kwon&#8217;s prosecution in Montenegro will have priority over extradition.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Terraform Labs co-founder Do Kwon\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/breaking-montenegro-officials-arrest-man-suspected-to-be-terra-founder-do-kwon\/\">arrest<\/a> in Montenegro earlier this week has become one of the biggest developments in the crypto industry so far. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fugitive crypto entrepreneur was captured months after he fled his home country of South Korea following the collapse of Terra which wiped out $60 billion from the crypto industry. The country is now seeking Kwon\u2019s return to answer for his crimes and face prosecution.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Kwon\u2019s prosecution in Montenegro to take precedence<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marko Kovac, the Justice Minister of Montenegro, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=v4G5_e5jK2U\">revealed<\/a> in a recent press conference that the United States and South Korea had both requested the extradition of Do Kwon. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both countries have reportedly made diplomatic efforts to secure the custody of the fugitive founder, in order to prosecute him for the fraud he perpetrated last year. Minister Kovac informed that no such request had been received from Singapore, even though the country had requested Kwon\u2019s detention.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Justice Minister added that Kwon\u2019s court proceedings in Montenegro will take precedence over any foreign extradition requests. \u201cPrimacy is given to the court proceedings led in Montenegro. If they are convicted for the criminal offense of falsifying identification documents, only after they served their prison sentence is it expected that they will be extradited, the Minister stated.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The final decision regarding Do Kwon\u2019s custody will be made by Montenegro\u2019s high court. Factors including the gravity of crimes, the location of committed offenses, and the sequence of requests, will be considered while making the decision regarding extradition. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, his detention period has been extended to 30 days. South Korea currently has an outstanding international warrant for Kwon\u2019s arrest, along with an Interpol red alert.
