The battle or rather the race to finish at the top continues to create headlines, mainly for three participants-<a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/tethers-latest-update-could-impact-usdt-in-a-positive-way\/\">\u00a0USDT<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/what-usdcs-diminishing-dominance-on-ethereum-means-for-the-stablecoin\/\">USDC<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/usdt-usdc-busd-know-this-update-before-you-park-your-money-in-it\/\">BUSD<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The list goes like this<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Stablecoins witnessed a significant rise, especially in 2021. But the total market cap of stablecoins fell in 2022, registering at around $135B at press time. Now here comes the change in the &#8220;order.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Binance USD (BUSD) stood in second place after an increase in spot volume share as compared to Circle&#8217;s stablecoin (USDC). So what led to the shakeout in the stablecoin ecosystem?<\/p>\n<p>Well, the world\u2019s leading cryptocurrency exchange by volume allowed all user holdings in USDC, USDP, and TUSD (alternative stablecoin offerings) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.binance.com\/en\/support\/announcement\/e62f703604a94538a1f1bc803b2d579f\" rel=\"\">to be converted automatically<\/a> to BUSD (Binance\u2019s stablecoin) when deposited onto the exchange. In this regard, the report <a href=\"https:\/\/coinmetrics.substack.com\/p\/state-of-the-network-issue-177\">added,<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;This decision is justified by Binance as an attempt to improve liquidity by consolidating order books into a single stablecoin pair, as well as increase demand for their own stablecoin.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>BUSD supply recently surpassed $21B, while USDC supply has tilted downward in recent months as can be seen in the graph below.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_265202\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-265202\" style=\"width: 2282px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Screen-Shot-2022-10-19-at-8.26.34-PM.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-265202 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Screen-Shot-2022-10-19-at-8.26.34-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"2282\" height=\"1307\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Screen-Shot-2022-10-19-at-8.26.34-PM.png 2282w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Screen-Shot-2022-10-19-at-8.26.34-PM-300x172.png 300w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Screen-Shot-2022-10-19-at-8.26.34-PM-1024x586.png 1024w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Screen-Shot-2022-10-19-at-8.26.34-PM-768x440.png 768w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Screen-Shot-2022-10-19-at-8.26.34-PM-1536x880.png 1536w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Screen-Shot-2022-10-19-at-8.26.34-PM-2048x1173.png 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2282px) 100vw, 2282px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-265202\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: CoinMetrics<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In fact, USDC\u2019s market valuation has dropped by more than 19%, shedding approximately $10.59 billion.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Any more surprises?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Well, <a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/dai-stablecoin-holders-need-to-be-cautious-now-heres-why\/\">DAI<\/a> can be considered another emerging stablecoin by looking at its velocity.<\/p>\n<p>Velocity is an interesting metric to gauge stablecoin activity. It measures the relative turnover in token value between accounts taking place in each token\u2019s respective network.
