A <\/span>recording<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the meeting, which is now circulating on social media, was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=40-w9r7WSKM\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">shared<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by popular Celsius victim <\/span>Tiffany Fong<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who obtained the video from an encrypted anonymous source.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/09\/13\/technology\/celsius-network-crypto.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by The New York Times, Mashinsky is looking to make a comeback through his \u201caudacious plan to revive the firm.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mashinsky was joined by fellow Celsius executive<\/span> Oren Blonstein<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. During the meeting, the duo pitched their idea of custody services to their employees, outlining a new revenue structure where customers would be <\/span>charged fees<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for availing Celsius\u2019s custody services. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ironically, the project is code-named <\/span>Kelvin<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, yet another temperature unit.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Employees skeptical<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mashinsky was met with <\/span>skepticism<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by employees who doubted the viability of the proposal. One employee can be heard pointing out that charging fees would <\/span>subside<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the platform\u2019s popularity since it was marketed as a zero-fees platform. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another employee questioned how Mashinsky would gain back the trust of his employees and his customers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a bid to reassure them, Mashinsky made grand comparisons, citing the bankruptcy of popular brands like<\/span> Pepsi<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span>Delta Airlines<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who came back stronger. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Users on the internet were not thrilled about the comparison made by Mashinsky. One user pointed out that Pepsi and Delta\u2019s Chapter 11 was a consequence of natural market events, unlike Celsius whose dishonest business conduct forced them into bankruptcy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>FTC wants in<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, the U.S <\/span>Federal Trade Commission<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (FTC) is seeking the court\u2019s permission to enter Celsius\u2019s bankruptcy proceedings. Court filings made by FTC attorneys Katherine Johnson and Katherine Aizpuru on Tuesday did not clarify the regulator\u2019s intent to<\/span> join <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the case, however, the FTC did ask for a copy of all relevant case documents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One possible angle may be to <\/span>limit<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> sensitive consumer information being exposed during the proceedings, after all the FTC is a consumer protection agency.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A similar request was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CelsiusNetwork\/status\/1565435832546238474\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">made<\/span> <\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by Celsius earlier this month, where the lender asked the court to redact \u201ccertain personally identifiable customer information.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This isn\u2019t Celsius\u2019 first attempt to rebrand its operations.
