The company claimed not to have sold any of its BTC after investing another $1.5 billion in early 2021. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, the Elon Musk-led company recently released its second quarter (Q2) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/tesla-cdn.thron.com\/static\/EIUQEC_2022_Q2_Quarterly_Update_Deck_J8VLIK.pdf?xseo=&amp;response-content-disposition=inline%3Bfilename%3D%22tsla-q2-22-update.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. According to the Q2 report released on Wednesday (20 July), Tesla had sold a significant part of its BTC holdings. The sale amounted to about 75% and was worth $936 million at press time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite claiming to hold for the long-term, the sale surprised many, especially with one BTC trading for less than $25,000. Based on the details of the report, the sale was categorized under the &#8220;proceeds of digital assets&#8221; sale.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> From the published report, Tesla noted that,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cAs of the end of Q2, we have converted approximately 75% of our Bitcoin purchases into fiat currency.\u201d<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Several reactions have followed since Tesla published the report. The most notable one came from Bitcoin maximalist and Microstrategy CEO Michael Saylor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> According to his tweet, he maintained a neutral ground on the incident. Still, reactions under the tweet have interpreted his comment as a sarcastic jibe at Elon and Tesla.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">If you sell 75% of your bitcoin, you will only have 25% of your <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/bitcoin?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#bitcoin<\/a> left.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Michael Saylor (@saylor) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/saylor\/status\/1549856625321807873?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 20, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Necessary evil or\u2026<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The reason for dumping its 75% BTC holdings still remains unclear at this time. However, Barclays analyst, Brian Johnson, gave one reason he thinks the company decided on it. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to him, Tesla had planned a $460 million digital asset impairment charge. Besides, Elon had earlier said Tesla would <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1392602041025843203\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stop accepting BTC<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for car payments in May 2021 while <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/tesla-begins-accepting-doge-for-select-merchandise-sends-it-rallying-16\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">opting<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dogecoin [DOGE]<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With Tesla&#8217;s recent decision to sell off BTC, could it mean that Tesla\u2019s faith in Bitcoin has dwindled? In Johnson\u2019s opinion, it was nothing of such. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He also noted that the 25% left was still a lot. At the time of writing, there were no public reactions from the Tesla CEO. However, one thing did react and it was Bitcoin.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Bitcoin reacts!<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following the news of the sale, Bitcoin\u2019s value dropped. After surpassing $24,000 on 20 July, the BTC price tanked to $23,000 a few hours later.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> While it went back to the $23,700 level, it could not hold it for long. At press time, the BTC price had fallen below $23,000, trading at $22,917.58.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Tesla BTC sale could have impacted the price drop as Elon Musk has remained an influential figure in the crypto market.
