A quick look at some numbers suggests this might not be the case.<\/p>\n<h3>Turn up the volume to HIGH<\/h3>\n<p>According to Dune Analytics, OpenSea&#8217;s monthly volume reached its <a href=\"https:\/\/dune.xyz\/rchen8\/opensea\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">second highest<\/a>\u00a0peak since August. December&#8217;s volume came up to $3,047,073,775.3 or above $3 billion. With regards to Polygon, monthly OpenSea volume was <a href=\"https:\/\/dune.xyz\/rchen8\/opensea\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">above $70 million<\/a>, marking a six-month high.<\/p>\n<p>However, when looking at the <a href=\"https:\/\/dune.xyz\/rchen8\/opensea\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">number of NFTs sold<\/a>, OpenSea Polygon NFTs crossed 1.5 million this month, while OpenSea NFTs [Ethereum] were below 1.5 million, but above 1 million.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">According to Dune Analytics data, OpenSea&#39;s transaction volume has exceeded $3 billion this month, second only to its peak month in August. In addition, OpenSea has more than 345,000 active trading users this month, a record high.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Wu Blockchain (@WuBlockchain) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WuBlockchain\/status\/1476398562636296193?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 30, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h3>Time for an Antacid?<\/h3>\n<p>In its 2021 summary, Arcane Research <a href=\"https:\/\/static1.squarespace.com\/static\/60377b34e7791c1277aaae97\/t\/61cb272480430d5cc3337156\/1640703789129\/Weekly+update+-+Arcane+Research+%28Week+51%29+2021+SUMMARY.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">noted<\/a>,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;OpenSea reached unicorn status through a capital raise and has an estimated valuation of $10 billion. The extreme NFT growth has contributed to Ethereum\u2019s growing fee problems, creating opportunities for other layer-1s with higher throughput to prosper&#8230;&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>OpenSea&#8217;s appetite for gas is a well-known fact amongst NFT traders and Ethereum users. However, one factor contributing to the high number of users this month might have been the relatively low gas fees. As of press time, <a href=\"https:\/\/dune.xyz\/0xroll\/OpenDAO\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">80.10%<\/a> of this had reportedly been claimed. OpenSea has been on the receiving end of flak from the traditional art community, which believes the NFT giant isn&#8217;t doing enough to <a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/art-theft-an-emerging-issue-on-nft-platforms-like-opensea-is-there-a-solution-in-sight\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">combat art theft<\/a>\u00a0on its platform.<\/p>\n<p>2022 will reveal how OpenSea addresses this question.
