During a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=IxahxTZK370\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">episode<\/a> of the Unchained podcast, host Laura Shin let the author of <em>The Bullish Case for Bitcoin,<\/em> Vijay Boyapati, and Ethereum Foundation Researcher Justin Drake take a stab at the question.<\/p>\n<p>Needless to say, it was the latest chapter in the debate between Bitcoin and Ethereum maximalists.<\/p>\n<p>According to Boyapati, Bitcoin was right to give importance to backwards compatibility, when compared to changing protocols or issuance volumes &#8211; as Ethereum has done. In fact, Boyapati believes such actions undermine the decentralization of the platform, with the exec <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=IxahxTZK370\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">adding<\/a>,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s very hard to change something like Ethereum, when it&#8217;s at scale. It&#8217;s like changing a plane that&#8217;s flying, taking the engine out while it&#8217;s in midair and changing the engine.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That&#8217;s not all, however, with the exec quick to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=IxahxTZK370\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">conclude<\/a> that Ethereum&#8217;s scalability effort is &#8220;doomed to failure.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Drake <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=IxahxTZK370\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">explained<\/a> his previous comment about Ethereum being &#8220;the fulfillment of Satoshi&#8217;s vision.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/drakefjustin\/status\/1425699247484194818\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tweeting<\/a> Nakamoto&#8217;s very first commit, Drake used it to claim that the Bitcoin creator had been thinking of building a marketplace on top of Bitcoin.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Satoshi&#39;s first commit \ud83d\udc40<\/p>\n<p>market.cpp<br \/>mapMyProducts<br \/>ReadReviews<br \/>AdvertInsert<\/p>\n<p>building a decentralised p2p marketplace<\/p>\n<p>envisioning an internet of value<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1pp64mR5z7\">https:\/\/t.co\/1pp64mR5z7<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Justin Drake (@drakefjustin) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/drakefjustin\/status\/1425699247484194818?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 12, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Calling Bitcoin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=IxahxTZK370\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;digital gold,&#8221;<\/a> Drake pointed out how far the king coin has come from Nakamoto&#8217;s alleged marketplace concept. He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=IxahxTZK370\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;But the thing that&#8217;s a little bit disappointing is that it&#8217;s not a Lego block in the sense that the idea of Bitcoin is that you hold it in a vault for decades and you just don&#8217;t touch it &#8211; you just look at it: it&#8217;s shiny and you enjoy just looking at your pet rock.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h4>Aerial View<\/h4>\n<p>Now, a debate is one thing. But, is there more to it? Well, some would say that a &#8220;flippening&#8221; could be seen soon.<\/p>\n<p>Traders and experts have used a number of metrics to try and predict whether a &#8220;flippening&#8221; would be possible between the two top cryptocurrencies. Ethereum&#8217;s formidable position as a smart contracts platform and its <a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/ethereum-flippening-bitcoin-assessing-if-it-is-any-closer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">meteoric growth<\/a> often come up against Bitcoin&#8217;s market cap and circulation volume in many circles.<\/p>\n<p>Even Ethereum 2.0 and the Lightning Network have been <a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/can-ethereum-2-0-beat-lightning-network-in-the-race-to-scalability\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pitted against<\/a> each other. Based on this, the scalability race is likely to continue.<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s more, Bitcoin has become legal tender in one country while crypto-companies have been <a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/kraken-synthetix-etc-donate-1-5m-to-fund-ethereum-2-0\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">donating<\/a> significantly to support Ethereum&#8217;s development.
