Ripple\u2019s ongoing lawsuit with the United States\u2019 SEC has kept the company and\u00a0 XRP, in the news. In a recent interview<\/a> on CNBC\u2019s Squawk Box, the company’s CEO, Brad Garlinghouse expressed his frustration over the lack of regulatory clarity in the US.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Asserting that other countries had already invested \u201ctime and energy\u201d to provide clarity that allowed entrepreneurs to build and investors to participate, Garlinghouse said,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a misunderstanding of how these technologies can be applied\u2026 In the US, there has been a lack of regulatory clarity.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Ripple ranked<\/a> 38 on this year\u2019s CNBC Disruptor 50 list for the rapid pace of technological change that it had brought about. Ripple\u2019s platform uses blockchain technology to send money across borders for banks and other financial institutions. The company\u2019s liquidity service uses XRP as a \u201cbridge\u201d between currencies and allows payment providers to process cross-border transactions faster than other routes.<\/p>\n

The XRP ledger uses the consensus algorithm, and blockchain technologies which, according to Garlinghouse, could be applied in \u201cconstructive ways.\u201d He further said,<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can unlock trillions of dollars of trapped capital to make the global economy more efficient. All the XRP that has ever been created has already been created, so there\u2019s a zero inflation dynamic.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A recent Wall Street Journal article<\/a> titled \u201cBan Cryptocurrency to Fight Ransomware\u201d specifically asserted that the existence of Bitcoin and other cryptos benefitted nobody except criminals and speculators.\u00a0<\/span>Highlighting the fact that the \u201ctoothpaste was already out,\u201d Garlinghouse said,<\/p>\n

“When we talk about ‘should we ban something,’ let’s make sure what we’re talking about.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Calling the crime angle a curious one, Castle Island Ventures\u2019 Nic Carter emphasized<\/a> that blockchain transactions operated on a relatively transparent system and were \u201ceminently traceable.\u201d He further added,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn absolute and relative terms, the dollar is used for illicit purposes far more than Bitcoin. We didn\u2019t ban dollars\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
