Its public debut via a direct listing grabbed the attention of market pundits everywhere. In fact, Coinbase is the first major cryptocurrency company to go public. This has been hailed as a victory for the bitcoin market in particular, as the development was seen by many as a sign of the legitimization of the crypto markets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">According to series of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/0001679788\/000120919121027138\/xslF345X03\/doc4.xml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">filings<\/a> made on Friday with the U.S. SEC, Brian Armstrong sold<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>749,999 shares in 3 batches at prices ranging from $381 to $410.40 per share amounting to around $291.8 million. In another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/0001679788\/000120919121027149\/xslF345X03\/doc4.xml\"><span class=\"s1\">SEC filing,<\/span><\/a> Coinbase director Fred Wilson disclosed that he sold 4.70 million shares for $1.82 billion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Always the skeptic, Peter Schiff, the popular Bitcoin critic was quick to note <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/peterschiff\/status\/1383792715360399372?s=21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">that:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8220;CEO of Coinbase, Brian Armstrong was publicly pumping COIN, he was privately dumping 71% of his shares. Other insiders selling included the Pres., CAO, CPO, and CFO who dumped 63%, 86%, 97%, and 100% respectively. Union Square Venture fund also dumped 100%.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He included a chart on Twitter and stated that Coinbase execs were privately dumping &#8220;63%, 86%, 97%, and 100%&#8221; COIN shares.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screenshot-2021-04-19-at-11.22.02-AM.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-154250 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screenshot-2021-04-19-at-11.22.02-AM-1024x399.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"288\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screenshot-2021-04-19-at-11.22.02-AM-1024x399.png 1024w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screenshot-2021-04-19-at-11.22.02-AM-300x117.png 300w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screenshot-2021-04-19-at-11.22.02-AM-768x300.png 768w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screenshot-2021-04-19-at-11.22.02-AM-1536x599.png 1536w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screenshot-2021-04-19-at-11.22.02-AM.png 1764w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Coinbase general counsel Paul Grewal also took to Twitter to address the FUD; he <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iampaulgrewal\/status\/1383949380319793153\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">noted<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;For Coinbase, this means that we saw our investors and certain executives create this pool of liquidity. Without their sales, CB could not have successfully created a supply of shares that could enable new investors to come in, which is basically the point of a DL.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He also addressed the &#8216;deliberate disinformation&#8217; being spread about Coinbase.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;We\u2019re also seeing certain confusion &#8211; and maybe some deliberate disinformation? &#8211; around the sales that a few of the Coinbase executive team made. These sales were pretty unremarkable, considering that\u2019s what we\u2019ve seen with exec sales conducted around other direct listings.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">On Wednesday, during its Nasdaq debut, Coinbase shares closed at $328.28.
