One such company to unexpectedly join the pranking spree was BBC\u2019s popular children\u2019s show, Teletubbies that aired in the 90s. However, this joke was not all fake as it had an underlying social cause.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On 31 March, the show\u2019s Twitter account published:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Eh-Oh&#8230;what could the Teletubbies be possibly hiding from us? Stay tuned for something BIG this week. \ud83d\ude80 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Bitcoin?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Bitcoin<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/fJ2NBXsENx\">pic.twitter.com\/fJ2NBXsENx<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Teletubbies (@TeletubbiesHQ) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TeletubbiesHQ\/status\/1377259542640218113?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 31, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following this, the children\u2019s show launched a fictional cryptocurrency called \u201cTubbyCoin, which employs the power of &#8220;HugTech.&#8221; WildBrain Labs developed \u2018HugTech\u2019 and uses &#8220;cryptographology&#8221; to share \u2018Big Hugs\u2019 via TubbyCoins that are exchangeable.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to \u201cmine\u201d TubbyCoin, those interested can share Big Hugs! tokens on social media with anyone who needs hugs. Soon enough, most of crypto Twitter began using the #TubbyCoin tag to share Big Hugs.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Owner of the Teletubbies, Michael Riley who is also the Chief Brands officer at WildBrain, emphasized that the TubbyCoin was not a cryptocurrency, however, the part about \u201cWildBrain&#8217;s donation to charity is no joke.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The charity will help ensure kids have \u201cthe assistance they need in these difficult times.\u201d The company will make a \u201c$5,000 donation to Kids Help Phone\u201d and add one dollar to their donation for every TubbyCoin shared on social media \u201cup to a total of $10,000.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some lesser-known pranks received a great deal of attention on Twitter today as one XRP analyst cracked a slightly more obvious <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LeoHadjiloizou\/status\/1377550111153254400?s=20\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">joke.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It was a tweet about Elon Musk having joined Ripple as a board member which included an accompanying image of Musk along with other Ripple execs:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Breaking! <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@elonmusk<\/a> joins <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Ripple?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Ripple<\/a>&#8216;s Board of Directors! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/zt06576EwJ\">pic.twitter.com\/zt06576EwJ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Leonidas Hadjiloizou (@LeoHadjiloizou) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LeoHadjiloizou\/status\/1377550111153254400?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 1, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Elon Musk extended his support (again) to Dogecoin [DOGE] today, and the tweet incited a flurry of trading activity on Dogecoin, which pumped from $0.0540 to $0.066, breaking through any local resistances. The tweet may not have been an April fools&#8217; day prank; however, the meme-coin had a good day on the price charts.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;SpaceX is going to put a literal Dogecoin on the literal moon.&#8221; said Musk in a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1377567762919292938\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweet<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, not all jokes were clear as was the case of e-commerce site Flipkart in India, which said on 31 March 31,<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/flipkart\/status\/1377312378061135872?s=21\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that it will accept<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Bitcoin as a form of payment. The next day, the company clarified that the tweet was meant to be an April Fool\u2019s prank.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The joke soured after crypto-Twitter began to wonder why this was thought to be funny, given that the crypto has attracted many mainstream companies recently.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One entity even predicted that the company would eventually accept Bitcoin someday:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This is april fools ..but eventually you will .<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Blocknomy (@blocknomy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/blocknomy\/status\/1377326696739659776?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 31, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, another tweet that got significant attention was that of Peter Schiff.
