A new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kaspersky.co.uk\/blog\/cryptoscam-in-discord\/22271\/\">report<\/a> from Kaspersky stated that the perpetrators even went to great lengths to make the fake site appear as convincing as possible. The message contains a link that opens to the dubious trading platform. It also details instructions for accepting the supposedly free crypto assets.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The image below is a screenshot of the message from the scammers.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_140618\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-140618\" style=\"width: 1202px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/cryptoscam-in-discord-1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-140618\" src=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/cryptoscam-in-discord-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1202\" height=\"784\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/cryptoscam-in-discord-1.png 1202w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/cryptoscam-in-discord-1-300x196.png 300w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/cryptoscam-in-discord-1-1024x668.png 1024w, https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/cryptoscam-in-discord-1-768x501.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1202px) 100vw, 1202px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-140618\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kaspersky.co.uk\/blog\/cryptoscam-in-discord\/22271\/\">Kaspersky<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Investigators noted the attention to detail in designing the website, which even goes as far as offering victims two-factor authentication. The fake website also includes anti-phishing protection \u201cto secure their accounts.\u201d However, the team stated:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The purpose is purely to add plausibility; the site\u2019s true purpose is to transfer money from victim to criminal.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On completion of the registration process, the victim must make a deposit of 0.02 BTC (roughly $735 at press time) or its equivalent in ETH. The process also allows victims to go through a KYC process that mimics a legitimate exchange, requiring personal information and a selfie. The team believes that the scammers could be collecting a database of such info with the intention to sell it on <a href=\"http:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/darknet-marketplaces-receive-1-7-billion-in-crypto-russia-and-us-lead-global-traffic\/\">darknet<\/a> sites.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The victims are even able to claim the free crypto; however, when it comes to withdrawing funds, the attempt fails.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The alleged exchange in question is known as &#8220;withEREUM&#8221; however, it is common for scammers to change such details often.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Scammers are targeting Discord users on crypto-focused servers, through private messages that appear to come from fake exchanges that are giving away Bitcoin and Ether.
