CEO of Digital Currency Group took to Twitter to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BarrySilbert\/status\/1343680110902341633?s=20\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">announce<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that as of 29 December, Grayscale\u2019s AUM has tripled from 1 November, when it had $7.6 billion in assets under management. The firm has also seen significant growth in just two weeks. On 15 December, Silbert revealed that Grayscale\u2019s AUM was $13.0 billion at the time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/BarrySilbert\/status\/1343680110902341633?s=20<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ki Young Ju of CryptoQuant <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ki_young_ju\/status\/1343799769227907072?s=20\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">found<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that 16% of the bitcoin realized market cap is now owned by institutional investors and referred to Grayscale\u2019s AUM in a tweet today that said:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">16% of the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%24BTC&amp;src=ctag&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">$BTC<\/a> realized market cap is now owned by institutional investors.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Realized Market Cap: $186 billion<br \/>&#8211; Grayscale AUM: $19 billion <br \/>&#8211; Institutions AUM: $30 billion (by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BTCtreasuries?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@BTCtreasuries<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>Chart \ud83d\udc49 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/jmwVAzV5K7\">https:\/\/t.co\/jmwVAzV5K7<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ABT284B2jc\">https:\/\/t.co\/ABT284B2jc<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/KfygKFgflH\">pic.twitter.com\/KfygKFgflH<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Ki Young Ju (@ki_young_ju) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ki_young_ju\/status\/1343799769227907072?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 29, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Previously, Grayscale\u2019s third-quarter investment <a href=\"https:\/\/eng.ambcrypto.com\/grayscale-reports-best-quarter-with-over-a-billion-dollars-inflows\/\">report<\/a> showed that with regard to its entities, such as BTC trust, 80% of investments came from institutional investors, which were dominated by hedge. The firm\u2019s Bitcoin Trust\u2019s AUM was Grayscale\u2019s fastest-growing investment product as of 14 October. The average weekly investment in Grayscale Bitcoin Trust was $39.5 million, and the trust experienced $719.3 million in 3Q20 inflows, or 1,500% increase.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Demand for other Grayscale products such as its Bitcoin Cash Trust also grew significantly in the third quarter, with inflows increasing by more than 1400% quarter-over-quarter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, Grayscale has come under criticism from influencers. Euro Pacific Capital CEO Peter Schiff even <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PeterSchiff\/status\/1333947687549480960\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">accused<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the asset manager of \u201cpumping\u201d bitcoin to investors through its paid for commercials on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CNBC<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. MicroStrategy, a publicly-traded firm<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.microstrategy.com\/en\/company\/company-videos\/microstrategy-announces-over-1b-in-total-bitcoin-purchases-in-2020\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> revealed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> over $1B in total bitcoin purchases made in 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In fact, with regard to public companies that hold bitcoin, data from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bitcointreasuries.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bitcointreausuries<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> suggested that over 800,000 Bitcoin or 4% of the total circulating supply is held by public companies. Moreover, Galaxy Digital which holds <\/span>16,651 BTC <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and Square (<\/span>4,709 BTC) rank second and third, respectively, in the list of public firms that hold bitcoin.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Grayscale Investments&#8217; assets under management (AUM) are now worth $19 billion in crypto according to founder Barry Silbert.
